Sage Kowalkowski is a dancer and choreographer from Orange County California. She is currently finishing her B.A. in dance at UC San Diego, and has extensively studied the art of choreography and teaching. Under the guidance of Ana Maria Alvarez, director of both Contratiempo, a Los Angeles based contemporary dance company, as well as the UC San Diego dance program; she has learned that the key to effective choreography is establishing your ‘why’.
Sage was also a member of the Zeitgeist Dance Theater trainee program, where she focused on honing her technical abilities in ballet, modern, and contemporary under the guidance of Francisco Gella, Yusha-Marie Sorzano, and guest choreographer Barack Marshall of Batsheva Dance Company.
After fifteen years of training in ballet, contemporary, jazz, musical theatre, and hip hop, her teaching philosophy focuses on encouraging the development of artistry and individuality in young dancers. She believes that above all else, dance is an art form, and all dancers should be able to speak with their movement.
